Chris Tucker grew up sailing and racing catamarans, competing in his first adult national title event at the age of 12 and winning his first title as a skipper at the age of 17. At 19 years of age he competed in Australia’s iconic Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. With this background it was arguably inevitable that he would seek a career in a marine related field and as soon as he finished high school he enrolled to study Naval Architecture at the University of New South Wales.

While at university Chris became a keen member and eventually leader of the UNSW Solar Racing Team and was key in the design and construction of their second vehicle Sunswift 2. Building the car from aerospace grade carbon fibre allowed Chris to develop skills in both composite engineering and practical construction techniques.

For seven years after graduating Chris spent his time honing his skills as a naval architect working with world leaders in various aspects of the field, Austal Ships (world leader in high speed aluminium vessel design and construction), Roger Hill Yacht Design and Warwick Yacht Design.
