Why Aluminium?, The Advantages of Aluminium boats

THE ORION ART OF ALUMINIUM

One of the reasons why ORION clients have a deep appreciation for our customized driver’s boats is because our skilled engineers and craftsmen have successfully fulfilled numerous specific desires. The utilization of aluminium plays a pivotal role in this achievement as it offers immense adaptability in both design and construction.

SOLELY CRAFTED IN ALUMINIUM

In essence, the decision to choose aluminium boils down to these fundamental facts: If you seek a swift boat ranging from 30 to 80 feet, it must possess a lightweight structure. Our aluminium hulls weigh up to 40% less than their composite counterparts and a remarkable 55% less than steel yachts. If you desire a fast boat that can be tailored entirely to your preferences, only aluminium possesses the flexibility required to accommodate such modifications. Composite materials do not provide this option (unless an expensive one-off mold is created), and steel cannot be shaped in a similar manner. In addition to the countless customization possibilities, aluminium (specifically marine alloy 5083) boasts various other advantages such as strength, durability, ease of repair and maintenance, and more. Let’s delve into these remarkable attributes together…

PRIORITIZING SAFETY

Since Orion Boats are primarily utilized in open waters, the safety of owners and their guests remains our central focus. Aluminium possesses a significantly superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to the majority of shipbuilding materials and is highly resistant to deformation. Furthermore, any impact on an aluminium hull has localized effects, leaving the rest of the structure intact, thus ensuring passenger safety. The exceptional strength and resistance of aluminium hulls make them far more resilient to damage compared to their GRP counterparts. Additionally, aluminium absorbs impact energy over a larger surface area than steel and is twice as effective in absorbing shocks. This remarkable metal does not combust in the atmosphere, nor does it contribute to fueling a fire.

POWERFUL PERFORMANCE

No one purchases an ORION boat to cruise at low speeds. The incredible performance of our boats is a crucial factor, and the lightweight nature of aluminium compared to composite materials plays a pivotal role in this regard. Furthermore, you’ll experience fuel savings and reduced draft, allowing you to access places that other boats cannot reach. Ultimately, constructing your boat with aluminium guarantees maximum maneuverability, impressive speeds, and unparalleled comfort.

LONG-LASTING CRAFTSMANSHIP

Aluminium offers unparalleled longevity compared to other boatbuilding materials. It requires minimal maintenance, and aluminium structures deteriorate very little over time. Repairing aluminium boats is also far more cost-effective. Dents can often be easily rectified with a hammer, and if necessary, parts can be readily cut out and replaced. Aluminium exhibits remarkable resistance to corrosion, osmosis, and structural fatigue.

AESTHETIC APPEAL

Aluminium’s elasticity enables easier shaping and the creation of unique designs. Whether you prefer straight lines or curves, the style is entirely up to you.

RESALE VALUE

Due to their exceptional durability, minimal deterioration over time, and ease of repair, aluminium boats can maintain their value over a lifespan of 50 years. This means that their resale value surpasses that of any equivalent polyester yacht.

TOWARDS A GREENER FUTURE

ORION owners embrace life and strive to contribute to the preservation of our planet. Aluminium is an environmentally friendly material that can be fully recycled at the end of its lifecycle. Building with aluminium results in significantly reduced waste, and any leftovers can be repurposed in other applications. Choosing an aluminium-made boat is the most future-compatible and eco-conscious way to justify boat ownership.

6mm & 8mm 5083 Marine Grade Aluminium Hulls

Our hulls use 6mm & 8mm 5083 marine grade plates. Our hulls have a variable dead rise which produces a soft riding and stable vessel.

Supervised Build

Our boats are built using CNC Router marine aluminium plate and finished with Awlgrip marine paint. We control quality at all levels of a build and we don't leave anything to chance.

Offshore Performance

Rough water performance is a major priority in our hull designs. Through continuous refinement, we strive to establish the benchmark for superior seakeeping ability in our boats.

limited 10 year Hull warranty

Orion Boats stand behind our boats. We offer a limited 10 year warranty for all our hulls, and our warranty is transferable.
